The Tale of a Toddler Bed Time.

The Tale of a Toddler Bed Time.

Every evening, come 6 o’clock, the strangest thing happens in our house.

As I start to wind down from the day’s events,  just a couple of hours and I’ll soon be lazing on the sofa ( ok, I’ll level with you, when I mean lazing, what I actually mean is sitting on the sofa working, but that’s good for me.)

Only the Toddler has other ideas.

My lively little boy senses that the day is nearing an end, (which in theory should be much nearer for him that the rest of us) so ups his game.

And I mean seriously ups his game.

Now before you start chanting ‘Super Nanny’ ‘routine’ and the ‘3 B’s’ at me in a tut tut voice. I’ve tried it, believe me, I’ve tried it all. But my boy has a determination and a drive to quash any bed time routine I try to uphold. And he’s good, really really good.

Not in a lie down night, night, sort of good. More of a I see your bed time routine Mama and I raise it;

I say

“relax, close your eyes and go sleep”

He hears

“seriously lady, aint no one got time for that!”

Sweet peanut clothes are super soft organic and sung fitting making them safe for bed time , my toddler love his pyjamas

He lulls you in with a fake yawn here and there, even beckons you into his bedroom for ‘hugs’ and ‘stories’

we’ve cracked it, I sigh, tonight’s the night he’ll lie down and drift off without so much as a dozen look at me headstands, 1,2,3 weeeeeeesssss, or endless trips to the book case

But the minute those curtains are drawn my little night owl decides it’s party time; let the fun begin!

It appears that the final minutes before dropping off to sleep are about squeezing out the last bit of fun and an alarm bell chimes to signal play time.

I actually admire his zest for life; his little world must be an amazing place to be and I totally understand why he wouldn’t want to waste it lying down doing nothing.

Only nothing is exactly what I want to be doing once I’m pj’d up and ready for zzzd’s.

While my one bonkers toddler bounces on the bed.

even the softest sweet peanut clothes don't help this lively toddler bed time routine. Although they do stop him waking at night due to wriggling wardrobe malfunctions

Many thanks to Sweet Peanut for sending us these gorgeous organic cotton, super comfy pyjamas for The Toddler. They’ve been worn, washed and worn again many times over now. The snug fit is perfect for this little adventurer as it doesn’t ride up and annoy him in the night and as you can see, doesn’t restrict ANY movement AT ALL!

I remember this well! One day they start to sleep but you have no idea when that day will come – until then it’s party time at bed time! x
