I’ll be honest, when an invite pinged into my email inbox inviting me to try out a mini break at Beyond Escapes, a new boutique resort here in Devon, I was hesitant. With long nights and dark dreary days, as well as the niggling feeling I should be preparing for Christmas, not running off for a weekend jolly. But after checking out the website, I was intrigued.
‘Why not?’ I thought. A night away from normality could just be the tonic we all needed.
So off we trotted ready to see what this hidden gem, just off the main road through Paignton, had in store for us.
Checking in at 3pm, we were handed our wristband keys, given a map and sent through the grounds to our abode for the night; Lodge no.19.
Compact and bijou sprung to mind as it took no more than a 5-minute walk from the small hub of restaurant, spa & reception. Everything looks so clean and fresh, and so it should this Beyond Escapes resort only opened in February.
The lodge itself was modern and comfortable with everything you could possibly need. Underfloor heating downstairs and plush carpets helped us settle in and relax straight away. We unpacked while Ronnie spotted the Jenga game and Ky logged into the wifi.
Our table in the onsight restaurant had been prebooked for 6.30pm, a four year old to feed meant early dining. This gave us just enough time to chill in the hot tub and park all the stresses of the Christmas and working week for a few days.
And it soon became clear that a pre-Christmas break was just what we needed.
We had use of the spa with our stay with everything you would need for a relaxing stay including optional treatments (check out Devonshire Woman’s blog on here spa experience here )
The restaurant was equally cosy, modern yet chilled with stunning food. The menu isn’t too extensive which I prefer, you get the extra assurance everything will be fresh. My mussels starter and salmon main backed up that theory, finished off with a perfectly proportioned banoffee pavlova. Check out the photos below for a feast for the eyes for more of an idea;
I really couldn’t fault our stay, other than I would’ve liked to stay an extra night to get some time in the spa. We didn’t get a chance to take advantage of the little extra touches either, like free den loan building kits for the kids as well as board games.
That said, it’s perfect for anyone looking for a chance to escape and reconnect as a family (much better suited to younger children, teens might struggle for entertainment) a pamper girls weekend away break or a quiet couples escape.
We received a complimentary break in return for sharing our experience.
