A Review of The Merrell Gilet

A Review of The Merrell Gilet

That in-between part of the year, where winter gives way is always a tough one to dress for. I’m always getting caught out being either too hot or too cold and after a few months of stepping out in my trusty green parka I’m ready for a change. My alternative, when not draped in khaki, is a (fake) leather biker jacket or a tweed blazer which isn’t always the practical solution when out and about with a dog and toddler. This gilet by Merrell from Outdoor Look however, is perfect.

I’ve been toying with whether I should join the army of walkers in gilet, out on a Sunday during our regular walk and coffee through the Byes in Sidmouth. I’m a complete wuss you see, I hate, hate, hate being cold and the thought of getting caught out with cold arms was the stumbling block which took some convincing to get over. Daz has been sporting gilet for many years and told me many times over that I should get one.

So get one I did.

Knowing that Merrell are a good quality brand, I put my trust that a Silversun featherless puffer vest gilet wouldn’t leave me shivering a longing for the comfort of my armchair by the log fire. It promised the following.

  • Swiss Miss dot fabric with Durable Water Resistant (DWR) finish.
  • Stretch quilting hugging body.
  • Removable fur trim.
  • Hand warming pockets.
  • Thinsulate Featherless Insulation – fill power.

When you’re out with kids pockets are a must, mine are usually stuffed with poo bags, lip balm, tissues, my mobile, a few old shopping lists and a Blankety Blank cheque book and pen. ( last one was a lie, I lost the pen years ago)

The zips are perfect to make sure non of the above go astray, little things like this are sometimes taken for granted and you don’t miss them until you get a jacket without them. I love a good inner top pocket too so I can hear my phone when it rings and I don’t loose my jumble of ‘stuff’ while I’m digging it out in a panic.

The fur section of the hood zips off which I tend to do when using my baby carrier on my back. It’s super soft to the touch though and the Toddler loves how it feels, I’d just like to avoid it being covered in dribble.

I was surprised how light it actually felt on and did worry how well it would keep me warm but needn’t have as it was fine. It didn’t feel too bulky either and was great while out on a cold sunny walk this week. super cosy and feather light, just the ticket for chasing after a lively toddler while preserving a little style, this Merrell gilet is a welcome member of my mum uniform.

  3. This looks really comfortable and warm. Definitely sounds perfect for long walks!
I’ve not worn a gilet since I was a lot younger, I don’t think it would suit me nowadays but it looks lovely on you.
