Shifting My Mum Tum With A Slendertone Connect Abs Belt

Wanna play? Let’s play an imagination game…… Think of a balloon, a skin coloured balloon. A really big skin coloured balloon. Now imagine it deflated, wrinkly just a little wisp of air. Then you manage to inflate it again, ( I have no idea how you did it, but you did.) And delaflate it 2 more times.

Well that balloon pretty much sums up my stomach after growing 3 babies; all 7lb 8, 7lb 8 and 8lb 2’s worth, plus a lot of other things which ended up giving me the physique of Mr Bump.

I tried to embrace the whole,

Your body’s done amazing things, just deal with it

take on the mum tum. But truth be told, I wasn’t having any of it. I yearned for a slice of the old me, I’ve accepted that with each baby came a few battle scars, not many, fantastic genes and Palmers Cocoa Butter meant I coped with the changes quiet well, but while it’s  was all out with the old me and in with the new, it was time to see if I could tackle the jiggle which I’d become so used to.

So tackle I did. And it went a little bit like this;

I started off with pulling those stretched muscles back to where they should be by a gentle exercise where you lie on your back and push it down onto the floor, holding for 30 seconds and breathing out. I did this for a couple of weeks until I was sure the muscles were knitting back in together.

Next was a series of  planking exercises. Just a few 30 second ones, then building up to a 5 minute routine (Pinterest  was great for ideas) Note to any mums doing planks for the first time, don’t look down! Gravity is not your friend right now.

Which that leads me to where I am right now; fine tuning and taking it to the next level with a Slendertone  Abs Connect toning belt.

Slendertone uses  Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS) toning technology to create strong, deep muscle contractions to tone your body. It is clinically proven technology to simultaneously relax and contract targeted muscles via small electrical pulses. Slendertone applies natural body science to exercise targeted muscles groups, in a similar way as your body would naturally do during exercise.

The belt connects via the power of bluetooth to a training programme app on your phone which begins by talking you through the setting up procedure. My aim was getting back into shape after having a baby. I set toning reminders which sends me a message at 8pm each evening, about the time my tween tells me its time we did our mother and son planking session. (And about the same time I want to sit and zone out on Facebook or catch up on some work, but you have to grab every moment you can when your older kids want to do something with you!)

The pulses are also controlled by your phone, the general idea being to go as strong as you can take for quicker results. The great thing though, is that it beeps and switches off when you’ve finished so no guessing and you stick to the programme. The only way I can describe how it feels is to imagine tensing your tummy and then squeezing it with your hands, it doesn’t hurt (unless you accidentally pump up the pulses too much. Don’t try that at home!) And be warned, if you’re using it in the colder months, the sticky pads on the inside are REALLY cold, I make some pretty strange noises as the belt’s going on. They do warm up quickly though.

I guess what you really want to know though is; does it work?

Aside from publicly announcing my exit from a 14 year marriage , this is probably the bravest post I have EVER written. It’s many years since I’ve had the confidence to wear a bikini so showing you the before photos has taken a huge leap of faith. But to appreciate how effective a simple 5 minute planking routine and the Slendertone Ab belt is you need to see it for your self. All shots were been taken on my iPhone which is why they aren’t great quality.

It’s been 8 weeks since I began my mission to go from jelly belly mum tum to bikini confident. Something which I never thought I’d wear again but I am over the moon with the results. I’ve not only toned my stomach, It’s got definition and I’ve lost 3 inches round my waist as everything’s been pulled in. I have lost weight thanks to having a slight limited diet since having braces fitted which has helped and for anyone thinking of getting their belly button pierced, take note of the lovely scar I’m now sporting!

I’d be interested to hear more about the first exercise you did to push the muscles back together. I really need to do that! Did you literally just lay on your back and push your back to the floor? How many time did you do that and how often? Sorry about all of the questions. You’ve done so well! I’m inspired

Yes Gina, you lie on your back, knees in the up and feet flat on the floor then push your lower back onto the floor and hold for 30 seconds breathing out. You can do this in bed too. I built this up to 10 times and then once I felt I’d got my muscles back to where they should be I started with gentle planks, just 1 minute for a week and built up to the 5 minute routine once a day. It tones your stomach as well as your arms & bum. The Slendertone really helped define my abs, it’s still work in progress but it’s quite achievable.

I’m definitely going to try that as I feel my muscles have moved since having the kiddies. I like the idea of doing it in bed as you are already laying down.
How did you know when your muscles had got back to the right place? Could you just feel it?

Well done you!! I’ve been planking all year, not every day but as much as I can and sure has made a difference. But mummy tummys are just not for me either. I’d like a nice flat toned tummy again. So the mission is still there.

Keep going Renna, I’ve been doing a 5 minute routine pretty much every day & along with the Slendertone it’s made a huge difference, I’ve never had abs even pre kids!

Well you got me convinced and I’m. Ow sitting here doing my first stint with the belt on! Such a weird sensation!

    • 12th February 2017 / 9:23 am

lol! You get use to it! I started light then worked my way up, I find the worst bit its putting cold pads on. It’s so worth it though, I’m using mine 4 times a week still and my tummy’s never looked better.
