Bath time and baby

One thing that has been consistent  with each of my 3 babies is to establish some form of bedtime routine. It helped them settle at the end of the day, instilling a safeness of knowing what comes when and gave me a focus that the end of the day was in sight  (meaning I could soon don on my pj’s and relax.)

Our evening routine with Baby R is a tried and tested 3 B’s; bath, boob, bed. For me, its teeth brushing, check on my kids, then 5 minutes reading. It’s all sending messages to your brain letting it know it’s time to switch off and turn in for the night.   It’s the same for adults and babies. Think about it. Do you have a pre bed time thing? (Friday night passing out after a bottle of wine doesn’t count!)

As our bath times are really quite important in ensuring I get some down time in the evening, I do try to find products that help calm and settle or at least have a smell that becomes familiar and associative of that time of the day. That’s actually a lot harder than it sounds as Baby R loves water! When the witching hour strikes (usually by 5.30pm) the best and only way to distract him from his grumpiness is going in the bath. This seems to flick a switch, giving a last turbo boost of energy, while he splashes, and lunges at everything in sight. It’s a world away from the long, hot, lazy bubble baths I enjoy and not too dissimilar to what these mums are singing about….

I’ve been using products from the Cussons Mum & Me range right from the day Baby R arrived, the  New Mum range for me and the baby range for Baby R. As he’s bathing every day, it’s important to me that I use gentle products and the Cussons baby range is hypoallergenic and paediatrician approved. They contain gentle ingredients such as Almond Oil and Aloe Vera that help keeps baby’s skin, well baby soft.

So what’s your baby bath time like? calm cool and collected, while you sing lullabies or a splashathon, with a grand finale of tears before bed time?

Great post and thanks for linking up with us on the #bigfatlinky
Before I moved bath time was really important! We would have fun, play have good conversations. It was a real bonding time that was fun for all and was like we cleansed ourselves of all our thought of the day so the boys could have a peaceful night. I only have a shower now so we miss completely out on it which I completely hate.

That’s a really good analogy, I never thought about it like that before.

My Tween still lives by the bath bed (not bottle or boob!) routine now.
