With wedding season upon us, it’s only fitting that I share an idea for the perfect wedding gift. The days of irons and dinner sets are well and truly over, these days most couples have already tested the waters of sharing a bathroom and live together by the time they wed leaving no need to shower the bride & groom with household essentials.
It’s not uncommon these days to ask for money instead of proved a wedding gift list, but I find that quite impersonal and I’m sure the happy couple would appreciate having a gift or two to mark their big day and with any occasion, I like to show I’ve given some consideration and what better way to show how much effort you’ve put in than with a piece of typography utterly personal to them?
For those of you not in the know, typography is the art and technique of arranging type to make written language readable and appealing. The craft of arranging the text is similar to a piece of art which can be completely personal and unique, which is what makes it the perfect gift for a couple.
A picture is worth a 1000 words
Toxic Fox have a fabulous collection of Typography of Love word art prints available on their gift website, which can be personalised with 10 words unique to the recipient, as well as the framed prints, there are cushions, mugs and wall stickers. I chose a Live, Love, Laugh print as an anniversary present for Daz (shhh, don’t tell him). After 13 years of marital (cough) bliss it was quite a task to pin down our life into 10 words though!
Ordering is child’s play, you fill in the 10 word options on the screen, choose the colour and hey presto, there it is. I went through all the colour options before going back to my first choice then swapped and changed words around until I was completely happy. Your own words show in a different colour from the rest of the text which is a great touch.
The print arrives in a sturdy, good quality box frame, choosing where to hang it was the most difficult decision as I want everyone to see it!
I was sent a personalised frame and these are my honest thoughts.
